FLYING/CAR HIRE -
Various companies fly to the region and car hire is available at the airports although it may be easier to book via the airlines themselves.

A personal recommendation (from Calais/Boulogne) to avoid Paris would be to take the A16 then A28 to Rouen and then pick up the A28 again towards Le Mans, a relativley new section of the motorway.
Or take a scenic route with a stop off making the journey part of your holiday. There are many interesting places to visit on the way eg. The Loire Valley.
